Roll Your Own: Community Packs Contest FAQ

  1. What is the Roll Your Own contest?
  2. Packs enable easy sharing of complex Stream configurations (i.e, Routes, Pipelines, Sample Data, and Knowledge Objects) between Worker groups/Fleets and organizations. It is as easy as adding a specific Pack to your Stream/Edge deployment. Packs are a great way to share expertise and lower Stream/Edge administration. So we wanted to energize the Cribl Community to create, publish and adopt Packs. Prizes will be awarded for:
    • Best Technical
    • Most Popular
    • Highest Impact

Submissions are accepted from April 20th (4/20) to July 8th, 2022 at 5 pm PDT.

  2. Take two easy steps:
    1. Complete the Contest Submission form at https://cribl.io/community/packs-registration
    2. Submit your Packs to the Cribl Pack Dispensary for consideration.

  1. Are existing Community submitted Packs eligible?
  2. Yes. Cribl welcomes existing Community Packs provided: 1) The author is otherwise eligible to submit the Pack; and 2) The Pack otherwise satisfies the “Community Pack standards and submission” criteria.
  1. Who can participate in the contest?
  2. Roll your Own Pack contest is open only to legal residents of the United States and the District of Columbia.

We wanted to include our international community members, but to satisfy the varied legal requirements will take more time. Similarly, additional legal constructs are needed (i.e. external judges) to include partners, resellers and distributors. We can’t wait to include you in the next iteration of the contest. Let us know what you think in the #packs channel in the Cribl Community Slack.

  1. Where can I find the Contest Rules (the legal stuff)?
  2. Official contest rules are detailed on the Cribl Community page, specifically here.
  1. What if there are multiple submissions for a given technology?
  2. If there are multiple submissions for a given log source, the award will recognize the best technical implementation as determined by the judges.
