Why Cribl Customers Wanted Cribl Lake
Cribl Lake was created in response to our customers’ struggles with setting up buckets and getting access to the data they needed. We heard them share their frustrations around delays from the cloud teams and hopes of a better way to store, manage, and access their IT and security data.
Our customers weren’t just asking for any data lake; they wanted one that was easy to set up and intuitive to use. One that wouldn’t require extensive onboarding, configuration, or learning of a new tool.
In spring 2023, Cribl leaders seriously considered developing a data lake product. By September, the engineering team was formed—known as the Lakers (no relation to the NBA team with a father-son duo)—and the creation of Cribl Lake was well underway.
Go Lakers!
In April of 2024, we proudly introduced Cribl Lake to the world.
What’s So Innovative About Cribl Lake?
Traditional data lakes are complex and require teams of cloud or data experts to set up and maintain. Once data lands in those data lakes or object stores, it’s an ordeal — requiring multiple people and workflows — to get the data out so it can be used. What makes Cribl Lake different from all the other data lake solutions out there?
Cribl Lake doesn’t require any expertise to use and delivers:
Speed to get up and running in minutes. Zero configuration with automated provisioning creates a fully usable cloud data lake in minutes, not months.
Ease to easily get data in, and get data out. Schema-on-need delivers the format you need when you need it. Unified security policies keep data safe and prevent unauthorized access.
Choice to store data where it makes sense and in open formats, no vendor lock-in. Your storage or ours, you decide.
Data stored in Cribl Lake is in open formats, making it easy to access, replay, and search. That’s what makes Cribl Lake so innovative. It’s as simple as that.
5 Reasons Why Customers Love Using Cribl Lake
It’s “stupid easy” according to one customer: just minutes and a few clicks to get a fully usable cloud data lake up and running. Don’t believe us? See for yourself.
Solves tough use cases like getting immediate access to archived data and slashing storage costs.
Can be used as a staging ground to temporarily park data for cheap until it’s ready to be used. Can also be used to cost-effectively store data long term to meet compliance requirements.
No need for a new SKU to use — Cribl Lake is part of Cribl’s suite of products and follows Cribl’s credit consumption model. Customers appreciate the clear and easy pricing while avoiding the hassle of forecasting and estimating API costs.
Lake + Search just makes sense. Finding and analyzing data regardless of where it is and what format it’s in is completely changing how customers work with their data.

Cribl plans to continually push boundaries to deliver our customers choice, control, and flexibility to power IT and security operations.” — Zac Kilpatrick, vice president of global GTM partners at Cribl
