It’s 10 P.M. Do You Know Where Your Data Is?

Many of us remember the public service announcements asking parents if they knew where their kids were at night. They were ominous and a little alarming. Asking yourself the same question about your data can be equally as scary, but Cribl Edge can help.

Often the life of an Observability Engineer includes spending hours or even days trying to figure out what data exists, where that data lives, and who holds the keys to access it. It gets even more complicated in containerized environments, where application data is often hidden behind walled environments. Once you have solved these issues, you still face the complex task of deploying and maintaining hundreds to thousands of agents or collectors, needing to get system owners involved to install updates or give you access to additional sources.

Cribl Edge brings some sanity to getting observability data from Windows and Linux servers. Installing an “intelligent” Edge node agent allows you to efficiently gather and auto-discover data at the egress point. Edge allows you to reduce, enrich, and route data at the Edge node, providing flexibility in the data sent to destinations and giving you the ability to lower costs. Since Edge is vendor-agnostic, you decide how and where to forward your data. Either through Cribl Stream or any destination of your choice.

With Edge’s Fleet Management, you can manage over ten thousand Edge nodes from one centralized location, simplifying management and lowering the time and cost of ownership. The Edge agent lets you teleport quickly into any Edge node for a detailed look at system performance metrics, running processes, containers, open log files, and more. You get immediate control and visibility without needing to involve system owners. Integration with Cribl’s AppScope and Search tools allows you to instrument applications for APM like metric and event data and to search data on Edge Nodes without ever needing to collect or ingest it.

Ryan Saunders of SpyCloud, a leader in operationalizing Cybercrime Analytics, recently told us:

“Having the ability to search data on the Edge is not only great for costs but for incident response. Sometimes as a security person, I often need data that I don’t have. I can go right out and search at the endpoint. That sounds great to me.”

Us too, Ryan! No matter what time of day, always know where your data is and where it’s going with Cribl Edge.
