Here are a few things we’ve come to realize living day in and day out in the world of observability:

1. Folks in this space could benefit greatly with a better understanding of what Observability really entails, the key observability tools, and a working knowledge of how to unlock the value of all observability and telemetry data.
2. Observability engineers (although actual titles currently vary across ITOps, DevOps, SRE, and other departments) play a critical role in organizations. A role, or responsibility that crosses numerous departments and the tools/technologies in use. And it’s becoming more and more critical every day as data volumes continue to rise and enterprises understand the importance of this data.

Playing off these two, fundamental observations, we (Cribl) set out to establish a first-of-its-kind observability industry credential and training program that aims to set a standard while providing a unique training perspective designed to prepare a learner with workforce-ready skills to design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot observability infrastructure within an organization or project.

Back in June 2022, we officially introduced the Cribl Certified Observability Engineer (CCOE) certification program, launching with foundational certification tracks, the Cribl Certified Observability Engineer User (CCOE User) and the Cribl Certified Observability Engineer Administrator (CCOE Admin). CCOE User is the first level cert that’s designed to introduce, educate, and validate one’s ability to effectively use Cribl Stream. This training not only includes online instruction but also hands-on experience with labs designed to demonstrate real-life observability challenges and configurations. The next level CCOE Admin is a much deeper technical dive; while still remaining practically oriented, it builds off what was learned in CCOE User and starts to address how to build a flexible architecture that can reduce, enrich, route, and control telemetry data.

Three months post-launch, the wildfire is beginning to spread. A milestone has been reached.

CCOE is leading the observability industry in deep technical observability and security data knowledge, helping enterprises gain strategic control of all data gathered within their environments. This unique, one-of-a-kind, not business-as-usual certification program exemplifies one’s commitment to mastering the skills and knowledge it takes to be a true observability engineer.
