42 startups became unicorns in August, one of the lowest monthly totals in 2021

All three are connected to startups that reached valuations of $1 billion or more in August. Last month, 42 companies joined the unicorn club, according to data from Crunchbase. That’s actually one of the lowest monthly totals so far in what has been a record-breaking year for venture capital funding. So far this year, the August unicorn total is tied for second-lowest with January. February saw the fewest new unicorns with 26.
